Master Bedroom Makeover: Pillow Love

I got a package in the mail today. Don't you just love packages?

It was an order from Pottery Barn. This was the first time I ordered from them--normally not only are the items outside my budget, but I just can't stand the shipping charges. But I couldn't resist.

In the last post about our master bedroom, I told you about how we splurged on a $79 duvet at my local PB store. I had meant to get the shams, which weren't available in the store, but was waiting to see if they were going to go on sale. They didn't. And for the last few months I've been scouring eBay looking for a way to get two of them. No luck there. But, last week, the Bella pattern came back! So I ordered two shams without hesitation.

And something else jumped into my cart as well. A saffron colored pillow! And it was free shipping!

I decided to have it monogrammed, since I've always wanted something monogrammed. I want the bedroom to feels as "ours" as possible. And since this pillow was free shipping, the $7 was a splurge but wouldn't break the bank! Welllll, the monogram didn't break the bank. But the two shams (which weren't free to ship) and the pillow came to $92. Makes the $79 duvet seem like less of a bargain, huh? It got a bit of an eyeroll from my sweet hubby. Love you, hun! ;)

But I found another way to save. I didn't buy a pillow form for the pillow from PB. I was intending to buy a down alternative form somewhere cheaper. I had intended to do that before it came, but I haven't gotten out to a store. Then I remembered! I have my son's old pillow. It's been washed too many times and got all lumpy and deformed. It's been sitting around waiting to get thrown out when I realize I could cannibalize it and use it for my new pillow. I don't plan on switching the cover off very often so this is not a big deal. At the very least this makes the pillow usable until I buy a form.

I just took it apart piece by piece and then stuffed it into the pillow. I had to be extra careful not to catch the zipper. Then I gave it a good fluff.

Here it is in it's new home with it's cousins, the shams and the duvet. Pardon the wrinkles, as we do sleep in our bed.

Bedroom total so far:
  • duvet- $84 (with tax)
  • sheets $37 (with tax)
  • bedskirt $25
  • shams and monogrammed pillow $92
Total budget: $555
Total spent: $138
Total left in budget: $417
