Shaved ice or snow cones or slushies...take your pick!!

Who doesn't love a good snow cone? One that has just the right icy texture, just enough but not too much syrup...yummy! At Sophie's pool party on Friday we tried out our new snow cone maker and yes Wendy, (my sister) it was the best $20 I ever spent! I picked it up at Target in Bangor, and Wendy thought I was a bit silly to have spent my precious US $$ on such a purchase. She has since come around (after I told her how much fun it is) and is making noises about picking one up herself!!

It seems everyone has a memory of making snow cones or "shaved ice" as a kid. With the easy availability of Freezies and popsicles, snow cones seem to have fallen from popularity, at least in our neck of the woods... Well, no more!! There is something so much more fun about cranking out an icy, syrupy treat without the wait. Sophie and her friends were fascinated by the instancy of it all and thought it was the greatest "invention" ever!!

So go ahead, have another try at enjoying this simple, but fun treat. Even those of you who won't give in and have an ice-cream cone with your kids for fear of the fat content, will surely indulge in a little liquid sugar??!! Won't you...??!! Don't be scared. Just close your eyes, think back to your childhood, and take a big slurp and a crunch of a good old-fashioned snow cone!! I promise it won't hurt!!
